Bholanath Sharma, a resident of Phalewas Municipality–5, Khanigaun, Parbat, is widely recognized as a leading social activist dedicated to expanding education and fostering social transformation in Parbat district. Since 2015, he has been actively involved in the fields of education, library development, community empowerment, and health services.
Driven by a strong commitment from a young age to establish a library in his village, Mr. Sharma founded the Moti Library in 2016 with the support of his family and well-wishers. After completing his higher education, he entered government service in 2026. Despite his professional responsibilities, he continued his social mission, often carrying books to his village during official leave. Through sustained dedication, the Moti Library has grown into one of the most exemplary community libraries in Nepal.
Through active collaboration between the Moti Library and Room to Read, Mr. Sharma played a key role in establishing libraries in 135 schools across Parbat district, with an additional 36 school libraries expanded under his leadership. As a result, Parbat became the district with the highest number of school libraries in Nepal. He firmly believes that libraries are not merely collections of books, but centers of awareness, knowledge creation, mindset transformation, and livelihood development.
Beyond library development, Mr. Sharma has initiated and supported diverse community-based programs, including school libraries, learning centers, technical knowledge service centers, cooperatives, women’s tailoring enterprises, safe migration initiatives, Teach a Girl (TAG), Teach a Youth (TAY), mobile libraries, and a daily NPR 1 matching fund support program. These multidimensional initiatives have brought significant educational and social change, particularly in the Phalewas area and across Parbat district.
Mr. Sharma has also served as the Chairperson of Bhawani Vidyapith Secondary School in Khanigaun, Phalewas–5. During his tenure, he played a vital role in upgrading the school to higher secondary level, expanding science education, providing full scholarships to hundreds of students, promoting women’s empowerment and literacy campaigns, organizing health camps, and contributing to the establishment process of Dhulikhel Hospital, Phalewas. His collective efforts have laid a strong foundation for long-term and sustainable social transformation in Parbat district.
