Arjun Prasad Pokharel joined Nepal’s civil service in 2051 BS as an officer. Over his career, he worked in several important positions:
- Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
- Head of Internal Revenue Department, Department of Customs, and Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office.
- Head of the Department of Money Laundering Investigation.
- Spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance.
- Chief District Officer (CDO) in Kapilvastu and Rupandehi districts.
- Chief Secretary of Sudurpaschim Province and Madhesh Province.
- Secretary of the Public Service Commission.
- Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.
- Secretary of the Ministry of Industry.
On 3 May 2023, he was appointed Finance Secretary of Nepal.
